The Center of the Compass

A Guide to the Power of Steady Leadership in an Age of Disruption

Endorsed by Marshall Goldsmith, Thinkers50 #1 Executive Coach · and More

ABOUT THE BOOK

What Leaders Are Looking For And Where to Find It

The world is moving faster than most organizations can absorb. AI is reshaping decisions. Teams are drifting. Leaders are being asked to navigate complexity with less clarity than ever before. The Center of the Compass is a guide for leaders who want to stay grounded, make better decisions, and build organizations that perform under pressure, not despite disruption, but through it.

The book introduces the Compass framework, four directions that hold when everything else is moving: Clarity, Resilience, Trust, and Purpose. At the center is Coherence, the leadership quality that binds them all.

THE COMPASS FRAMEWORK

NORTH — Clarity

Leaders who know where they’re going create organizations that can follow.

EAST — Trust

Trust is not a soft metric. It is the infrastructure of performance.

SOUTH — Resilience

The capacity to absorb pressure without losing direction.

WEST — Purpose

Why the work matters and why that question can never be delegated.

CENTER — Coherence

When all four directions align, coherence emerges. That’s where steady leadership lives.

About the Author

Eric Mahler

Eric Mahler has spent more than three decades doing the work, building companies, advising leaders, and sitting in rooms where the stakes were real and the answers weren’t easy. The Center of the Compass began as something personal, a legacy he wanted to leave his son about what business and leadership actually require. It grew into something larger because the problem it addresses turned out to be universal.

Eric believes we are in a crisis of foundational leadership. Not a strategy crisis. Not a technology crisis. A crisis of basics: the trust, credibility, and human connection that have always been the true infrastructure of performance. His work, through Aretos Advisory and now this book, is about helping leaders find their way back to what matters and having the courage to stand for it when the pressure is highest.

He founded and led Fulcrum Consulting for nearly 20 years before a successful exit in 2022. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Aretos Advisory, an active board member and advisor to several organizations, and a keynote speaker to executive teams, boards, and leadership summits across the country. He divides his time between Minnesota and Texas.
